TUMON - It’s been nearly a year since the inaugural SUP Fest Paddleboarding Competition proved to be a success, and event organizers have announced the second annual event has been scheduled for Saturday, June 11 at the Hyatt Regency Guam, according to PIVOT marketing director Kelli Wedd.
“The first event was so well-received that we knew we wanted to really make this a signature event for Guam, making it bigger and better each year,” explained Wedd. “We are excited to welcome back last year’s event partners SUP Shack Guam and Hafaloha again this year, and could not be more excited to announce a new partnership with the Hyatt Regency Guam, who will help us to create events of the highest caliber, both for local and visiting athletes.”
Individual races will be divided into two board-length classes and each will include 500-, 1000-, and 2000-meter distances. The popular three-person relay will also return for this year, as well as the addition of an 11-17-year-old division in a 250m distance. Registration packages are available at volsportstour.com, and will be open until Friday, June 10 at noon.
“In addition to the competitive 11-17 division, we will be offering free races for young paddlers ages 10 and under, as a way to introduce them to the sport,” said Wedd. “Hyatt will also be offering pool passes, a lunch buffet and room stays at deep discounts, so bring the family and make it a staycation!”
Competitors will receive a free limited edition shirt from local apparel designer Hafaloha, as well as a 20 percent discount to all Hyatt restaurant outlets. A limited number of board rentals are available and can be reserved by calling SUP Shack Guam at 929-0436.
